    Question 1986 Mercedes Glasurit Paint

    Hello,

A friend has asked me to shine up his "new to him" 1986 560SL in midnight blue (dunkelblau). I'm a weekend warrior but I've never touched paint this old. It is in good condition with it's fair share of swirls in the paint but nothing deep and still has good reflectivity. Anyone have any tips or general info about Glasurit paint? Anything I should be particularly careful of? The paint is all original and it was garage kept most of it's life here in Florida.

I use a PC 7424 and have a variety of pads and liquids, but without good knowledge of the paint, I'm unsure where to start. I wanted to go with Megs UC and an Orange pad but I figured it was worth the wait to ask here first.

    Thanks.

It may be a single stage.

Shouldn't be too hard to handle, nothing hard like the ceramiclear

If the Midnight Blue is metallic, it is definitely CC

Easy enough to test w/ white cotton towel and a bit of polish

Without any close-up pictures of the paint it is hard to make suggestions on pad and polish

You should always do a Test Spot and start with the least aggressive combo possible

I would start with a white polishing pad and Ultimate Polish

Thank you folks. Unfortunately I can not get pics until the car arrives, but I will start with the white pad and UP and see how it goes.
