A bit off topic: Polish bowling balls?

Ok, I kind of picked up bowling and just purchased my first bowling ball recently.

Apparently they need to be cleaned and polished regularly. So can I polish with most of the polishes people use on here (Meguiars, Menzerna, etc)

Is anyone also a bowler here? Thanks

    I never polished bowling balls.

Take into consideration a "polished ball"...
coupled with the lane-oil: that would tend to make the ball
skid down the lane way too far before hooking-up.
    Results: low scoring.

They still oil the lanes. So...IMO:
that will put enough oils on the ball to
warrant the use of the bowling ball towel.

You do have a ball towel, don't ya?

    BTW:
What kind of material is your bowling ball
    manufactured from:
    - a plastic; or:
    -"reactive-resin"?

They don't recommend "polishing" your ball unless it is a polished or a pearlized cover stock, some bowling balls are dull or sanded for a purpose. You should clean your ball yes, but "polish" I wouldn't use car products that's for sure.

Many ball manufactures like ebonite and storm make their own cleaners for your ball. Or if your lanes have a coin operated cleaner I would use that

If your ball is new it will be some time before it needs a good cleaning and polish(depending on bowling freq). Keep it wiped with a towel to remove excess lane oil. A lot of coin op ball cleaners are like going to the car wash. If the bowling alley has a decent pro shop they can clean and resurface your ball when needed. Yes they do get scratched by the ball return equipment.

Actually i am a bowler. Been bowling for 43 years. bowling and detailing cars are my hobbies. just like the others said, i wouldnt recommend polishing the ball. you just want to clean it after you use it. you can use alcohol or ball cleaner. The reason some bowlers polish there bowling balls is because the want to cut down the hook. basically to get the ball down the lane before it starts to hook. good luck with your ball

Yes. Do not polish your bowling ball unless it is a plastic spare ball. Your best bet is to clean it using a product specifically for bowling balls after each use. You would be amazed at how much oil a bowling ball will absorb over time. When it does this the ball loses its grip on the lanes. You can plug the finger holes and soak the ball in hot water which will help extract the oil. I would do this every few months to keep the ball working as it should. If the wife is away for a few hours you could also plug the finger holes and run the ball through a rinse cycle of the dishwasher which does a great job of extracting oil.

Thanks. I have an Ebonite Cyclone ball. I do wipe it after every throw and clean with IPA/Simple Green solution after each session. Thanks
