Can Swirls be just in the LSP
This may be dumb but...
can swirls just be in the LSP? Corvettes supposedly have a very hard clear coat is why I ask. I got most of the swirls out with polishing/cutting etc. -I applied Black Light and a DG polish. Seems to swirls easily with light washing with a Carpro wool wash mitt. But it seems some of the swirls eventually come off-this makes me think that the thin coating of say Blacklight is getting swirled but not the clear
Does this make any sense at all?
thanks

you may not be buffing off your LSP well enough. Just a guess

five.o--I thought that as well
So when I use IPA wipe down and they come off what does that tell me?
Isn't wax/sealant etc forming a small layer on top of the clear-i know it doesn't evaporate/physically disappear into the paint

If all you used was CG Blacklight to remove swirls, you probably didn't even remove them. Blacklight has fine abrasives probably not strong enough for blacklight. Also the blacklight probably filled more than anything.
May want to use a more aggressive polish.
Back to the full-time grind.

I did not use BL to remove swirls I used it as a glaze before wax-
I used V34 and the 36/38 on MF cutting pad then polishing pad
after polishing it looked awesome-after BL and WAX and wash not so much

Re: Can Swirls be just in the LSP
I guess I am more curious how LSP is suppose to just all vanish at once and not get gradually swirled, worn, washed off-
--If there is a layer on wax on top of the paint what stops that layer from getting swirled/affected?
think like a top layer of your skin that gradually wears off and gets scratched, rubbed etc (obviously the car wouldn't reproduce the top layer like skin-just random thoughts-my mind is always asking questions)

Re: Can Swirls be just in the LSP
LSP's are "sacrificial barriers"...
How thick are the different forms/types of LSP's?
On a related note:
To what depths, of these LSP's, can scratches/swirls/etc. reach?
Some approximate LSP thicknesses:
Waxes ~ 0.18-0.23 microns (7-9 millionths of an inch)
Sealants ~ a few millionths of an inch more than waxes.
Coatings ~ 0.5-2.0 microns
Taking these thicknesses into consideration, then, IMHO:
It wouldn't take much pressure to push the "scratch-makers" into, and through, most "sacrificial barriers".

Thanks for the replies
This scale is made up but go with me on this
Let's say clear coat on a hardness scale of 1-100 is a 87 on hardness and say your wax is a 29 on the same scale- if you used enough pressure to barely scratch a level 29 surface wouldn't it scratch some of the protective layer off but not be strong enough to scratch the much harder clear?
If everything that took wax off swirled the clear wouldn't it be almost useless?

I really doubt how well an lsp protects paint. Cars still get swirled through it, still get water spots through it, bird bomb etchings. Granted a fresh coat of wax is still really nice for the look, slickness and initial beading but outside of that I don't have much faith in the protection aspect.
