Re: The Hernandez Polisher
Hi Art...
Thanks for sharing: The Hernandez Polisher!!
Pretty neat DIY...
Question:
How does this Hernandez polisher's throw (orbit; eccentric offset)...which I'll assume is 3/16" (5mm)...
translate/transfer to the interface between the pad and the panel being buffed?
For example:
-Seems like since the pad is now at a longer distance from the bevel gear drive...is there the same smooth operation as before the modification?
-Any noticeable loss of "buffing power"?
-Shimmy/wobble
-Etc.
Thanks in advance for any input you are able to provide.
Bob

There might have been loss of "buffing power" if I kept the 3" bp, however with it cut down an extra inch. It has plenty of power. Maybe to much if not careful, because it does heat up rather quickly. I've only tried it with Meguiar's polishing pad and Meguiar's AIO D151 and did a great job, but have a good number of pads and compounds/polishes to keep testing it.
I do want to test out and go to the point of no return (burn the paint) with it to see what force, speed, combo, etc... can cause this. I just don't have a test panel to try it out on. I am going to try to sneak it to Meguiar's TNOG next Thursday (since it is considered contraband there lol)
As far as shimmy/wobble I didn't feel there was any really since with the thread rod screwed in and couplers screwed in and tightened. It seems that it has plenty of support, but further testing needs to be done to determine this.
Also the Griots GG3 does have a lifetime warranty so if anything does go wrong I imagine I could just put it back to it's OEM state and send it back for repair. Nothing was changed as for as motor or inside the housing. I just changed bp's and made an extension. So hopefully it is covered.

If you don't want to "sneak it in" to TNOG...aren't the threads the same on a Meguiar's DA?
We could use that for burning some paint.

I think they are. The only thing is their machines seem a lot more powerful for this type of modification. I'll still bring everything though...

Re: The Hernandez Polisher
Check it out everyone! Kevin Brown posted this on FB. I wish I would have had these pictures to follow when I was making mine. He was a great help though.
I would really like for someone to do some thorough testing too with the extension.

Re: The Hernandez Polisher
Here is a little feedback. (I am not naming any names because I did not get the green light to do so btw)
If not I would gladly say, "guess what guys company so and so is coming out with brand new products!"
So after making a couple of calls. (Funny thing is they knew who I was lol)
A birdie told me that we might be seeing 2" pads in around 2 weeks and I think Autogeek is going to be having them in stock.
Seems like there will be a 2" bp and 2" pads coming...
