Re: How to restore the plastic around my truck?

Here is a small test spot of Solution Finish (just did it about 5 mins ago)

Bumper is now sanded and taped for the 50/50 shot.

I noticed that ultimate black works better on certain trim. I'm actually going on 1 month on the front cowl of my daily driver with ultimate black here in So Cal. I prepped it with mothers back to black trim cleaner.

What I do when working with faded trim I first clean it well using all purpose cleaner and a brush then wipe on Wolfgang Trim Sealant, not only will it darken it but will last for months, not weeks.
    Amazing stuff.

Maybe that's what I'm doing wrong. I'm scrubbing it down before with APC then wiping with IPA before Ultimate Black. But it might be because it's on my rear "diffuser" so it gets dirty quickly with all the rear tires being so close.

Yes, I do mean Ultimate Black. The safe thing is I actually looked it up before posting to make sure I got the name right.

Penetrol.... I use it on the black trim on my MINI.
Lasts for months. I mean, like 4+ months. Does not run in the rain.

    It's cheap... About $11 for a quart

Re: How to restore the plastic around my truck?

FWIW, Consumer Reports just published a 10 week test of five mass market trim restorers. They only tested one type of plastic from a 2001 Toyota Sienna. The winners were ReNu and Wipe New. Mother's Back-to-Black, Meguiar's Ultimate Black Trim Restorer, and Turtle Wax's Premium Grade Trim Restorers faded badly over the course of the test. I don't know if I am allowed to post the link, so Google "Best Exterior Car Trim cleaners - Consumer Reports" for the full article.
