The Showdown: CarPro Hydro vs Permanon Car

I've been itching to try Hydro and said I would wait till my Permanon ran out to get some. Well, I didn't and got some on my last order. I wanted to do a test to try each product on the same surfaces to monitor how they repel water and how long they last. I've also been looking to try a product on the plastic wheel wells for cars I don't pull the wheels so they have some protection as well.

So the test was on my driver's side of the Lincoln I used Permanon on the wheels and plastic wells. I applied it as I usually do via a paint gun. This is an extremely frugal way to use this product as it atomizes it extremely well and a little goes a very long way. After cleaning, I shot the wheels and wells and power washed it off. Repellency was great on the wheels but seemed to be lacking on the plastic wells. Now, in all fairness, by the time I got to the driver's side, it was dark out, so it was hard to see. I'll have a more fair comparison the next time I wash it when I can actually see how it's performing.

The passenger side was cleaned and then was sprayed with Hydro on the wheels and the wells. It was lighter out and it was repelling water very well on all surfaces. Again, a more fair comparison will follow. I was unable to shoot pics or video due to the darkness, but I will on the follow up test.

Just thought you guys might be interested in seeing how these 2 fair in this test. In the future, I want to try shooting Hydro out of my paint gun too. It should work well I believe and will make it more economical to use. I ended up spraying most of the car with Hydro and used approx 300 ml of mix.

Looking forward to your results, Richy.

I absolutely love HydrO2... and I believe Corey did a brief comparison of the two products in his initial review of hydro.

OK, good to hear. I don't know if any follow up was done to that test for durability? I wanted to compare them myself.

Looking forward to your finding Richy.

For me I found Hydro2 to outlast Permanon by a long shot. I got 3 months +/- from Hydro2 where as I only got 1 month at most usually with Permanon.

I use it frequently on wheels... durability is not quite as good as on paint, but I have seen 1-2 months on average on many sets of wheels. Can't beat it for the ease of use and 2 minutes that it takes to apply to 4 wheels.

Great! Exactly what I wanted to hear. I can live with 1-2 months knowing how easy it is to apply! I just wanted a way to limit the brake dust that sticks to the wheels after a week of driving. Before when I used to wax the wheels, there was a noticeable difference in the amount of brake dust stuck to them after 1 week. I know coatings is one way to go but knowing how easy this is to apply, can't complain.
