Advice On Full Plastic Bumper Paint/Restore
Hey all,
I was getting tired of the faded bumpers of my 2000 CR-V taking away from my nice polished paint, so I have decided to take them all off and repaint them.
A few years ago, I did cover them in PlastiDip, but that has since faded due being parked outside.
So far I have removed all the bumpers from the vehicle, soaked them in Goo Gone to remove the thin layer of PlastipDip, and power washed them all off.
For the rest on the process I plan to do a heavy cleaning with Oil Eater degreaser, followed by Duplicolor Adhesion Promotor, then finished off with two layers of Rust-Oleum Bumper and Trim Paint.
I usually use Purple Power degreaser, but could not pass up the deal at Costco for this stuff. As for the primer and paint, I just bought the product with the highest reviews.
Any advice on the project or any of these products? I am open to returning what I currently have to buy different products if it will create a better, long-lasting, finish.

Here is another idea. How about color matching the trim to the car and then using clear coat. Of course it would have to be sanded to a smooth finish. Then you can treat it the same as your paint to make things easier.

You could try DLUX on them before painting them. I think you could work out a deal with a guy at a body shop to paint them and clear coat them for you in dark grey or your color choice. It would last for the life of the vehicle that way.

Re: Advice On Full Plastic Bumper Paint/Restore
You know I did think about doing that, but I am on a budget, and cannot afford to have a body shop to do it for me (Actually I have no idea how much it would cost if I already did the prep work). I might actually call around and see, I cannot imagine it would be that much if I literally just gave them the bumpers, all they would have to do is paint them.
Now as cool as it would be to have the matching bumper colors, it would look funny on my vehicle, as it is only the LX model with the boring steel wheels and black mirrors. The body matching bumpers and mirrors came with the SE model. I have been trying to find those wheels, but so far have not have found a local seller.
SE Edition
LX Edition (Not a photo of my car, just found an image in the same POV)

Also, I finally got a set of the alloy rims I was referring to earlier in the thread!
Awesome, you did that with a rattle can?

Yes all rattle cans using the products I originally posted about. It was 3 thin layers per coat, 2 coats total. Very impressed with the spray pattern and finish.
