Re: Cordless battery powered DA polisher?

Honestly, once you get cord management down, the problem is not worth any perceived convenience. A powerful DA, e.g., Griots pulls 7 amps or roughly a n HP!

Those would be ok for small sections but hard to do a entire vehicle correction. I would be weary of the battery quality on the two posted, if you had a quality battery pack the idea is not far out there for a home enthusiast. Or for LSP application, etc.

A cordless polisher would be a massive advantage for mobile smart repairers, and us home enthusiasts. I do notice that an orbital one has just been launched in the UK market FYI. It's called the iVo OrbiPro. Looks pretty powerful - it's being promoted for many tasks, but looks like the power is there. Might ship to USA i don't know, as i'm in the UK I think I'm going to try.

Re: Cordless battery powered DA polisher?

Back in the 80's, I bought my first cordless drill, a 9.6 volt Makita. After that came 14.4 volt and 18 volt Dewalts. Each step got me more muscle and longer run time, which was offset by the penalty of additional weight and bulk. Now, the one that gets the most use is my 12v Bosch Pocket Driver, since it's just so damn convenient for small jobs or on a ladder. This may sound off the wall, but think about it for a minute; How about a hybrid cordless polisher? You could have a big battery, up to 40 volts that you'd set on the floor, with an 8-10 ft cord to the polisher. You'd get the benefits of power and run time without having to support the weight on vertical panels and a short cord would be a lot easier to manage than a 25 or 50 footer.
Maybe I should apply for a patent and a seat on "Shark Tank"!

Re: Cordless battery powered DA polisher?

If Milwaukee came out with one in their m18 fuel range I believe that would work pretty well. I see they have a rotary 7" out now and would guess it works pretty well. I have a couple of the M18 Fuel tools and they are quite amazing as far as power and battery longevity goes. What I have are a plain drill (2704) and an SDS rotary hammer(2712). I used both last Sunday drilling some holes for my daughter to mount a mirror and a few pictures in her masonry walls and a few 3/8" holes in her concrete patio to mount a 4 post steel frame shelter of some sort and still showed full charge on the battery.

Right now I believe that they have the tech to make a DA that will combine enough power and longevity to make on feasible. And if one is looking for a portable rotary I would say they have one now. I would guess that anyone who has used any of the high drain tools of theirs would agree.

some replies are very pessimistic, there are cordless chainsaws with dual batteries, why the hell can't there be cordless polishers ?!?...
