    Pad not looking normal

Today I went into my garage to play while the kids slept. Decided to whip out the Rotary on the wife's car and do a little practice session on the hood.

I don't have anything special for a rotary. Just something I got from a friend (Trade's Pro). As for the pad a Meg's Foam Cutting Pad W7000. Still nothing special. As for the product I've used 3M's Rubbing Compound 05973 every time I use the rotary on all her panels. Her car is really beat up so when I get a chance I try to work a panel at a time for practice. She doesn't care for the car anyway.

Today I noticed the pad looked a little weird after doing two passes on on section of the hood. The pad felt the same as always (feeling of heat coming from it) and I haven't done anything different with my technique as well. Prep pad, four dots, spray once, and set speed to 5 before I start working. The only thing I can think of is maybe I kept pressing to hard with it on her paint. Or on a certain angle I shouldn't have. I don't know. Anyone have any experience pads looking like this while starting out?

Oh, and the pad was brand new, never used.

I assumed that to myself. But, since I've done this a few times now I just wanted a second opinion.

It looks like someone hid a quarter in your pad.
