Its important to remember that every car is different. I recently had an issue with my audi, 2008 S5, and it was hard as a rock. I couldnt touch it with FG400 and a microfiber. I was able to obtain very good results with M101 and a microfiber pad followed up with an orange uber (medium cut) and Perfect Finish 4/6.

Have a look at this recent thread regarding a black S5... they claimed the paint was quite soft and have some fantastic documentation to show their progress and final results!

Awesome thanks!
I knew all paints were different even from model to model...
I guess ill take the least aggressive approach and go from there.
I don't think i can damage the paint with the maguiars compound (consumer version of m101 right?)
The Nano polish says it can remove 2000-2500 grit scratches so that should be pretty safe too...

It is unlikely that you will "damage" your vehicle with most high quality products and a DA using proper technique... BUT the key is to not use anything more aggressive than what you need because over time, the more clear coat you have remaining the better.
In all reality, a routine polishing (basic light polish every year or two) should not effect the life of the paint, but you do not want to be using heavy compounds on a regular basis, so proper maintenance is KEY after this initial heavy correction. Any future correction should only be for light swirls and scratches that have developed from washing and drying and that can be taken care of with a light polish.

Is that really that bad considering the car is an 05?
