Never Waxing an SUV Roof again

Yesterday I was waxing the roof of my SUV and thought "this is a waste of time". I hate standing on the Werner Platform and waxing the roof. I hate having to keep moving it, and I hate that there is no place to sit your wax pot on the roof. You can't see the roof. I also hate waxing front bumpers because of the intricacies and because they are so low to the ground.

So, yesterday I ordered a syringe of OptiCoat and Optimums Opti Applicator from Autopia Car Care. I will OC roof and bumpers only. Rest of the vehicle will get traditional products. That way, I still get to play with waxes, but don't have to do any of the work I don't like.

Anyone else do anything like this?

Yeah, I was thinking about doing something similar, it's a good compromise when you have enough LSP's to last the rest of your life...

I thought the same thing when i had my Tahoe. It took 2 drying towels just to dry the roof after every wash and its a PITA just to get up there. if i would have thought about opticoat i would have done that...but i traded that guzzler off

I have been using coatings for my roofs. Like you, I got sick of step stools and reaching.

    Good idea!
And...I really do hope that Opti-Coat works out for you this time around.

Yeah. I have at least 10 pots of wax I haven't even tried yet. Pretty disgusting, huh? I don't care what anyone says, I don't think coatings look as good as wax - and you can't maintain them.

Any polishing removes them, of course it removes wax as well. But, a tub of wax can contain 75+ applications - a bottle of coating: just a few.

I'm sure coatings look great the day you apply them (like wax does). But, like anything else, as it ages it wears away. So, it's a lot more work, but keeping a fresh coat of wax seems like the way to go if your top concern is appearance.

The SUVs with the spines that run down the entire roof are the worst. Our Tahoe has those and between that and the roof rack it takes forever just to wash clay and wax it. I'm never going to bother polishing that because it would just be a nightmare.

Yep, me too. This will be a "test" as well. I'm not so pig headed as to believe OptiCoat doesn't work because it failed for me. This time I will be using 100% Optimum products to prep it, including their car wash, polish, and applicator. I'll be laying it on nice and thick as well.
