Help! Please! I sanded through my clear coat

I was trying to repair my door from a chip and accidentially sanded through my clear. It's a 2000 Mercedes so not the most expensive car but I do like to have it looking it's best. I took it to the body shop and they quoted me $450 for the spot repair. Is that high? Any suggestions on what I can do? Should I just live with it?

    +1

Body shops will quote for panels and large sections only most of the time.

To get a respray on my front bumper is about $800

If they do a legit job. That does sound about right.

It might look small but the body shop will have to:

match the color, sand it down, prep it, then repaint it and blend it, then sand the orange peel, buff, polish, wash and wax.

    Pictures are always helpful btw

probably would help if you posted pictures. Where exactly on the door is the clear burned? how big is the "spot" repair

in my experience when dealing with bodyshops, that price is about right, I was charged 400 flat, but I don't recall them sanding the orange peel or waxing it

I would suggest getting some touch-up paints from dealer. It comes w/ a bottle of clear too.

Your car was repainted, but the orange peel was never sanded down, buffed, polished, waxed?

That's I what I did professionally. Full time.

    Interesting...

If the spot is not that noticeable then I would say, "I agree" but who knows what he wants and wants to spend.

I know. But they are only ~$2x. Worth a try.
