The Rupes is the new kid on the block so there is a lot of talk about it. The same thing happened with C-Quartz, Opti-Coat, Flex PE-15, Blackfire, etc. I'm sure all of these products are great but personally I can't justify buying every piece of new gear or product that comes out.

I picked up a Flex 3401 back in November. I'd been looking at it for a while but I have come to a point where I wanted to have a forced rotation machine to go alone with my Groit's 3 & 6" DA's. If the Rupes had been out then, I would have looked at it as well. The 3401 is a great machine but it's not for everyone.

For me, when compounding, I get better results from my HD polisher and a Meg's MF cutting pad than anything I've ever tried on the 3401. That's mainly why I don't like it. Plus, it tries to steer you in every direction. However, as cougarguy said, different tools for different people.
