Thanks guys I guess foam is the way to go on the exterior. I have used Pinnacle and Megs yellow foam and the Megs seemed more sturdy and substantial. May have just been me though.

I bought these the last time I went to Harbor Freight. They are the perfect size and the cloth over foam is of pretty good quality. I don't know how they work for detailing as I have not tried them yet. At $3 for an 8 pack you can't go wrong as an experiment. 8 Piece Terry Cloth Staining Pads
CG's UFO pad is also nice, but the polishing pal is really comfortable to use.
I have to agree. First time I used this thing I was amazed. It cuts my wax time almost in half. You can really lay down a lot of wax fast. Now, I never use anything else.

Just wondering what everyone is using for hand applicator pads. I have been using Pinnacle foam pads and ccs foam pads (From AG) and Wal-Mart Microtex microfiber pads (2 pack for $2). Are all these considered paint safe (Will not swirl/scratch)? I heard that microfiber pads might create more drag and cause marring and because I am getting inexpensive Wal-Mart ones (they seem pretty nice/soft though) I do worry about that.

I use foam for waxes. Microfiber for dressings and for getting those hard to reach places with compounds like under door handles and such.
