Re: Does your Griot's DA say PROFESSIONAL random orbital on the side?
I'm assuming hes talking about the new 3D/HD one. It does seem very promising as they have some great products. But they said it will still be a month or two before they release any more info.

Today, I sent back the newest unit for refund. I can open my current one and compare the DIP switch setting to others.

At this point, it is quite clear from both Griot's statements and Mark's testing that the motors themselves are if not absolutely identical, then equivalent current draw (7 amps/850 watts). In other words, pretty much the same. The answer then has to lie somewhere else in his two machines.

Re: Does your Griot's DA say PROFESSIONAL random orbital on the side?
This post brings to the discussion how important is having the "biggest, most powerful" da available. No matter which Griots machine you have or PC , Meguiars da , they will all do the job. I personally have multiple machines as I'm just addicted to tools. I would venture to guess that their are a handful of detailers out there that could take a lowly PC7336 and do a better job of paint correction then the majority of us could with any combination of machines or products. So all this fuss IMO as to which model is the MUST have is not as important as learning how to use any machine to the best of your ability. So will I buy any more DA's when they come out ? Well heck yes, a man can never have too many tools. lol. Will it improve my correction ability ? Probably not but that won't stop me from buying more.

Here's a few questions for you Al,
- Whose bringing out the tool?
- What's your opinion?
- Is it a DA style like the Porter Cable?
- Is it "Pro Grade" or "Enthusiast Grade"
- How much will it cost?
- What is the warranty?
- What does it look like?
- What are the power specs?
- Where's it made?
I'm all about thinking positive and hoping for the best and maybe this tool will be a Pro Grade tool that will target people that run buffers all day long, 7 days a week at a price point that will compete with the others in it's category. If so, I'm in!
Assuming he was mentioning the new polisher coming out by 3D/HD, not much is known yet, an announcement was made on their forum yesterday or last night. I'm still waiting for more info on it. I'm like you, if it's not better than the Griot's, what's the point? But as of now, there's confusion as to whether it's a forced rotation or traditional orbital.

While that may be true, why handicap yourself unnecessarily? I mena, you could polish by hand, but why, when you can use a machine. You could use a machine, but why, when there's a better machine, etc..

A key part:
"1. The internals of the machine are 100% the same. No changes have been made internally….none, period! No changes have been made to motor, OPM, diameter of orbital throw, etc.."
So
One could mark it down as "manufacturing variation" (motor, speed control switch tolerances, etc). The spec'ed design may not have changed but the manufacturer can use "equivalent" parts that are not always equivalent. In Mark's case, it would be an outlier data point on the high end.
You would have to take both apart to figure out why.
