Please critique my detailing shopping list

    Hello,

I'm about to spend some money at the AG store and was hoping you guys can let me know if there was anything else needed on my list. I am going to start out on my own car and I like to use the best bang for my buck products. I'm also partial with sticking to a couple companies only. Jeremy, I think you've got everything covered nicely and should be pretty well stocked for quite some time.

You've really piled on the products but I see you've limited yourself to just the Meguiar's DA Microfiber Correction System. Please don't misunderstand me, this is a great system but I think some foam pads and paint correction products would be a nice addition and give you some needed flexibility too.

    Polishes

I don't see a dual action polisher listed, although it could be in there somewhere.

    1. - Working with a dual action polisher

    2. - My Porter Cable 7424, backing plate, and pads

One question; Have you actually totaled the amount for this purchase?

    Bobby,

I should have mentioned I bought a Griots 6" Orbital and that is already home. I have read a lot of great reviews of the Meguiar's MF system and it comes with the 5" backing plate so that was a nice little bonus.

I know this is going to cost a decent amount of $$$ but I don't mind spending it. I love the satisfaction of doing something myself and doing it well. Hopefully, if I do a great job on my car, others will want work done by me to help offset some of the costs.

I should probably get some pictures up of my car. The paint was definitely neglected

I wouldn't use 303 Aerospace Protectant on driver's floor mat. It will make them slippery and will transfer to gas and brake pedals.

Good suggestion thank you. I'll avoid putting it on the rubber mats.

i can help some what, dont get simple green, for detailing use its not that great, and can mess some stuff up pretty bad stick with the megs APC+, for glass meguiars glass concentrate is a great value, 1 gallon makes 10 gallons. for a vacuum go with a shop vac(something with more then 2hp i have 2hp and i wish i had one stronger) for extracting i use shop vac and some bissel little green machine nozzles. imo you really dont need the duragloss sealant, collinite 845 will last just as long if not longer and have an awesome look, collinite is more of a hybrid then a pure carnauba. i dont think you will need lacquer thinner and it can really mess things up as well if your not careful, i just would not use it....what is the vinegar for? and for tar/adhesive i suggest tarminator vs goo gone, tarminator works so darn awesome and good i kicked myself for ever using goo gone, ill put it this way, tarminator removed what goo gone could not even soften(was some adhesive on the factory PC foam pad i ripped foam off and applied velcro for a smaller BP, and the adhesive nothing worked not even acetone or heat gun) so i highly suggest tarminator and its a good value, and goes a long way. for bugs i highly suggest poorboys bug squash stuff is economical and works amazing, dilutes 3:1, another good one which im going to buy next order is chemical guys bug bugger, it has a pretty high dilution so a small bottle will last a while. for clay lube and quick detail spray i suggest optimum no rinse or DP rinseless wash, has 2 more uses besides clay lube and QD spray, so its very nice on the pockets, and i tried megs last touch, its OK but i prefer onr or DP rinseless for clay lube and i prefer duragloss rinseless for QD spray... a good tire dressing is optimum opti-bond, it seems alittle pricey compared to some, but an 8oz bottle lasted me atleast 3 months doing my own vehicle and applying it 2x a week(liked the fresh look of it lol) so alittle goes a long way and looks great. for tires, wheel wells engine bay(non painted areas) i use purple power or zep citrus, cheaper then the megs product works just as good and is just as safe if diluted properly for the surface your using it on. and its a cheaper price then APC+ or super degreaser. other then that your list looks great, its great as it is, i was just giving you more economical suggestions for something that works just as good or better for lower price, or something with more then 1 use. duragloss and meguiars are both great products cant go wrong with them ,but some other brands i prefer over the DG or megs, but reading these forums and the reviews really helps to make wise choices as long as you dont fall into flavor of the month/hype stuff...happy detailing!
