I rented a Rug Doctor once for my house and it leaked all over our hardwood floors. A seal of some kind musta blown-out. It was a rental, so I didn't investigate
Rug Doctor at one time was the industry leader in carpet extractors. I have a feeling they've gone to using cheap parts. Everything you see at Costco or Sams is usually a piece of crap packaged up to look nice

I bought my barely used Rug Doctor on CL for $200. I use it for both the house and the cars, I'm happy with it.

$200 is 50% less then $400. Nice move!

I've been using my Rug Doctor for about a year now. I've had good results. Just use hot tap water.

Re: RUG DOCTOR? As Extractor?
I borrowed a Rug Doctor from a friend so I could compare it to my 15 year old Bissell Pro Heat carpet cleaner.
The Rug Doctor did a much better job of extracting. Don't know if was due to it having stronger suction, or just because it's base made a better seal against the carpet.
But it extracted all the soap residue in about a quarter the time.
I think I'll watch Craig's for a used one too.
