    ONR on plastic and rubber?

    Hello all,

I recently ordered some ONR from AG and am excited to use it, but I was wondering if I would be able to use the excess to do the engine bay after finishing the body of the car?

Specifically, will it have any ill effects on plastic engine covers or rubber hoses? Or any other input on trying/not trying this?

    Thanks!

    Absolutely! No ill effects whatsoever

ONR is very safe... in fact, if I'm not mistaken, I believe that it's not even toxic to humans. I'm not sure I'd drink it though :P But no, it shouldn't have any bad effects on plastic or rubber surfaces.

I sometimes use ONR mixed at QD strength to just do a quick wipe up in the engine bay to get rid of dust which always builds up in there between engine details.

Any rinseless wash is fine. After all, it's basically a normal car wash just with out the rinsing steps!

I'm not sure how well it would work though on the engine, you might need to pretreat the engine with a degreaser of some kind.

It will be fine for plastic, and rubber. I don't think it would be strong enough to really clean your engine bay

Thanks for all the quick replies!

In the engine bay I don’t have any serious grime to tackle, just the ordinary dust that accumulates on the engine cover, battery cover, reservoirs, hoses, etc. – so I’m only really looking to do a basic wipe down.

I guess my biggest concern with using ONR on plastic/rubber was that the lubricants/polymers could be absorbed making them brittle, but it sounds like it should be pretty safe. This may be redundant now, but I assume you use this on textured exterior trim just the same as you do the paint, correct?
