Anybody done paint correction on a 98 Silverado?
Just wondering how much time I should set aside. My friend has a 1998 black Silverado that is pretty swirled up and from the looks of it, never been buffed in its life.
How hard or soft is the clearcoat on these trucks if anyone knows or has worked on one and is it easy to work on?
I plan to use the Flex XC3401on it.

Cut my teeth on my 98 Silverado. I am not a professional. I am a hobbyist. I thought the paint was pretty hard. I had some deeper scratches in the clear from a dog trying to jump in the truck when I was not home and he got locked in the garage. It took a lot of passes with aggressive polishes and pads to level them.
I am not the original owner. I dont think it has been repainted. If it has, it must have been to whole truck because the entire truck behaved the same.
Like with anything, do a test spot or 2. Least aggressive product possible. With the fine print out of the way, I settled on M105/Orange pad with M105/Yellow pad for spot correction. I also used some yellow/XMT4 for spots (very aggressive combo on this paint). Followed with M205/white. Was LSP ready at that point. All done with Griots 6in ROP and 5.5 in pads and PC 7424 4 in pads for small areas.
btw, mine is red.

Thou I have not corrected a 98',I have corrected a 2000' and a 2009'.The older a silver and the 09' a red Silverado. They both were polish friendly (not too soft/hard),but they were not black.
Make sure to do some test spots with different product/pads.The truck being black, have some patience.
Good luck!

Test spots are your best bet. Decide on process, then go to work.

My grandson has a '99 dark gray & last week I took out some minor scratches/swirls in the front fender by hand with Meg's cleaner/wax. Took about 3 passes to get them all out but I didn't feel the need to go to the Deep Crystal Step 1 straight cleaner (in maroon bottle). Fairly easy paint to work with.

Thanks, I know that. I just wanted to tell the guy how long it would take before I schedule a day and touch the car at all.

Nice to know. The 99 is a newer body-style. I wonder if the older 98 has similar paint. Oh well.... I guess only one way to find out.
Thanks guys!

So you've got a GMT400? That factory paint isn't so bad to work with.
Only thing I can say is that a test spot is your friend!
