It's nice to be able to use small and large pads on DA's, but...

let's say your polishing a panel where you need both sizes, and this might happen to be the case all over the car. What a PITA to have to constantly switch back and forth between backing plates. To really benefit from being able to use small and large pads would be to have two DA's, IMO. I use the Griot's DA with 4" pads. If I didn't have the Flex 3401 to use with 6.5" pads, I'd probably buy another Griot's DA to use with 5.5" pads.

can't go wrong with having a few of these (especially with the warranty) and you would have an extra as a back-up just in case...

I agree, it sure is nice. I always keep a 5.5 inch set up and a separate set up with 4 inch pads. Polishing is already a long process (especially if your trying to photograph at the same time), anything to speed it up helps.

I also feel that the inconvenience of having to switch between backing plates/pads may lead some detailers to forget or not bother with hard to reach areas.

You already answered your own question: more polishers.

Nope, I think I have a good combo. Recently sold my Flex 3403. The thread was just some food for thought.

Yeah, I meant that the answer is to have more than one polisher so you don't have to switch backing plates.

I believe that was the original intent of the Edge buffing system. Too bad things didn't turn out and they are now a bit behind the times.. . . Esp. considering I spent money on them.

Edge adapter was a hit back in the day, you could flip pads and snap in and out different sizes quickly too.

Re: It's nice to be able to use small and large pads on DA's, but...

I'm looking to get a rotary to really try them out. Anybody getting rid of theirs for the new flex??

From the sounds of it the thin HT's are really the way to go for DA work, however I haven't tried an Edge pad on a Griot's DA. Has anybody?

How about a straight up trade for a PC 7424 for a Griot's??

    LOL. I crack myself up.
