Ordered the Flex 3403 Rotary...

Can't wait to get it! Didn't feel the need for the new Flex rotary or the price. I'm sure the 3403 will fit my needs perfectly, especially because this will be my first rotary.

I ordered the edge 6" black wool pad(with adapter). I also ordered a 5" backing plate, and a 6 pack of 6" kompressor pads(3 white, black, red, gold).

Should be interesting!

If the quality and performance of the 3403 is anything like the 3401 you'll be more than satisfied. I bought the Makita 9227 earlier this year and I was truly amazed at how nice of a machine this was.

I actually got to try both the Makita 9227 and 3403. While the Makita was nice, I really liked the smaller frame and lighter weight of the 3403. It was very nice to use. Yeah, I'll have to use smaller pads, but that's fine. From what I've read, I can also finish polish(maybe not jewel) effectively at 1100RPM's, correct?

That's the same way I felt going to the Makita rotary!

My old buffer / sander is really old but it still works. It's an old Craftsman Commercial 2 speed unit. On and off, no soft start and no variable speed now combine all this with its weight and size!!

I find I'm more comfortable using smaller pads on my Makita too!

I read allot about the Makita and visited a local body shop supply store and could not feel how comfortable this new machine felt. It was literally half the weight and size of my older machine. It's variable speed, soft start, hard speed settings.

• Variable speed (0-3,000 rpm) with pre-set maximum speed dial; ideal for ultra slow polishing
• Pre-set speed setting dial (from 600-3,000 rpm) for maximum control
• Electronic speed control maintains constant speed under load
• Fast and powerful polishing for clear coat finishes
• Lock-on button for continuous use at one speed

In my opinion, Jeweling is a process where reducing both pressure and machine speed in combination with a longer buff time. I've only done it a couple of times and do it using a red or gold Lake Country pad.

Menzerna PO85RD is a great product for jeweling as it's very fine and uses diminishing abrasives. If I remember correctly I was polishing at about 1000 rpm give or take a few..
