Concerns with using Megs Wheel Brightener

Ok, I've tried Megs All Wheel Cleaner, Zeps APC , Megs APC+ and Amazing Roll Off and I still can't get the ribbed area in the back of my rims clean I read a couple posts about using Megs Wheel Brightener, so I ordered myself a 32oz sample of the stuff. I'm planning on diluting it 4:1. I hope to only need to use it this one time to get all that crude out of the ribbed area and then seal and maintain the wheels. But now I am having 2nd thoughts on using it due to today, reading more post on the use of Megs Wheel Brightener and everyone having mixed opinions on its use due to it being acidic.

I plan on using it on my chrome clad rims off my 2007 Dodge Ram 1500, which I bought used last year and as you can see from the picture the ribbed area behind the chrome clad part, just has alot of crude in it.

Like I said hopefully I only need to use this Megs Wheel Brightener one time and then, just maintain the rims, because I am happy with how Megs All Wheel Cleaner currently is working for the rest.

Any thoughts, suggestions or ideas would be appreciated about using Megs Wheel Brightener, I just don't want to have to keep buying stuff though.

    Thanks!

I use a higher ratio, when I mix it. Kind of a 8-1. But that is just me.
The wheel brightner should take care of your issue.

To achieve excellence, excellence cannot be rushed. Technique is just as important as the product used.
While my approach takes more time, the results are far superior.

Make sure and wear eye protection and some sort of mask. This stuff is nasty.

    Attaching pictures ugh...

Here I uploaded the picture to your gallery, it took me about 30 seconds and now everyone can see it without having to click to a thumbnail...

    Ta DA!

There is some acid in WB, I don't think it's a lot, it's certainly not a "high" acid content wheel cleaner like many similar products. Still, it will dull down

    • Polished Aluminum
    • Anodized Aluminum
    • Magnesium

Once the surface is dulled down you'll have to re-polish to restore brilliance and clarity.

The rough texture area inside the wheels you want to clean is going to require a chemical and agitation... then unless you coat it somehow it's just going t get become embedded with dirt again...

Maybe try Stoddard Solvent, (parts cleaning solvent, non-flammable), and a stiff bristle nylon brush?

Or use the WB diluted with a brush and be prepared to polish the aluminum if necessary, we offer a number of buffing pads just for polishing brightwork to take the work out of the job...
