Do EPDM seals really need to be maintained?
The recent threads about Gummi Pfledge have raised a question, which perhaps some of our more scientific gurus can address. As I understand it, the seals and weatherstripping of our vehicles are made out of EPDM, a synthetic rubber. I understand that this stuff has excellent resistance to heat, ozone, and the elements. It doesn't need to be nourished or moisturized. The only maintenance that is needed is periodic cleaning (for which purpose I use Megs' M40). On my Honda S2K I also apply silicone grease twice a year, as recommended by the manufacturer. I understand that the silicone grease reduces sticking (a real concern during the winter months) and noise.
Is this information accurate?
Thanks.

I believe Einszett suggests it stops sticking and freezing too ... so maybe its simply a replacement for that silicone grease ?? Makes it look nice too.
