Use the least aggressive combo first and then move up if necessary. Meg's Ultimate Compound by hand works great.

If your going to wet sand for the first time, I suggest practicing on either a test panel from a junk yard or a car that you don't mind F'n up. If you start with 3000 grit and a soft "roller block" you can relatively safely get a feel for it.
