help? Shine keeps disappearing
Hi guys, not sure if this is the place to ask this but here goes, you can all yell at me later
I have a 63 custom van, won best in class the other day. It is painted with Base clear, Garnet red metalic pearl. But herein lies my problem, just before the show I used my buffer and 3m's meduim cut compound followed by the glaze and swirlmark remover then 3M's wax.. all was good.
Now however I am getting a hazy dullness coming back and tons of swirl marks... they were very, very faint before but now they are killing the shine.... I tried applying a paste wax, meguiars, and it is bettttter, haze is gone but swirl marks are still there
Thoughts Ideas?

It is very possable you problem is the glaze.glazes are a filler so it's covering up the swirls more then likely.Did you do a ipa wipedown between your compounding and check for swirls in the sun before you applied the glaze and wax ??

If you used a compound then you likely need to finish that up with a finer polish to remove the haze caused by compounding.
1982 Olds Cutlass - my summer toy.
1999 Suburban - Black of course!
2002 Bonneville - The Mutt, a mix of everything.

Hit it with your lightest cut polish again, IPA wipe down, seal and wax then let us know.

Re: help? Shine keeps disappearing
I dont know what glaze you are using but the 3m swirl mark remover is known to have fillers in it. You need to completely work and breakdown the polish to remove the swirls.
Go and rework the polish(3m SMR) making sure its completely broken down and do an IPA wipedown to check your results.

The fillers in the glaze "fill" the swirls, then wash off, revealing the swirls that you thought were corrected.

This is why, after time, you will see a deminish in the finish with a glaze, if the swirls were not Completely gone before the glaze application.
