Water spots that just keep coming back
Hey everybody,
So heres the thing that has been going on with my car lately. I was on vacation a few weeks ago and it rained while my car was outside. It then became very hot a few days after that and baked all the dirt and rain drops onto the car. I knew that the water was probably etched into the clearcoat, so I did the normal wash and sure enough all the water spots looked like they were down in the clearcoat. So, I first tried menzerna 85RD with a white pad to see if it would remove them and it did. I then did an IPA wipedown just to make sure the product wasn't just masking them. It wasn't, so I went ahead and continued on the whole car. But, the last few times that I have washed the car, the spots have came back. Some don't even look like water spots and are pretty large. It hasn't rained since I was on vacation and the car hasn't seen any water since then. Any reason they would be coming back like that? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

There could be two things.
1. They were etched and are hard to see so after polishing and doing the IPA wipe down the light you were using made it difficult to see
2. The acid is still in the clear were the etching happened and the water "re-activated" it and thus still etching.
You could neutralize it using 50/50 vinegar mix. That is my take on it, I would guess that polishing and IPA would take away the acids but I am no pro. Also, could be due that forms at night causing spots. I have had it happen many times. I know many people like tight beads but I am not one i like larger ones as they take more time to dry out and leave less water marks or like a sheeting LSP.

Thanks for the advice, I tried a vinegar mix and it didn't seem to do anything for me.. I'm hoping I can figure this out soon.

What kind of wax are you using?

You are going to need something stronger than 85rd to remove the etching.

I do have a stronger polish to use, I was just unsure as to why they looked like they were gone with 85rd and then came back with the next wash. I may have to sit down one of these days and go over the car once with some SIP or something.
