Recommendations for oxidation remover
Hello guys,
So, I've got a 2007 Cadillac DTS, black factory paint that is experiencing what I would call moderate to severe oxidation. I am looking for recommendations for products that could effectively restore the finish (if at all possible).
I did notice that Meguiars offers an oxidation remover. However the packaging specifically says it is for fiberglass/gelcoat finishes. Marine grade obviously. Not too sure this would be appropriate for an automotive finish application.
I have tried Griots Fast Correcting cream with an aggressive foam pad and have only been able to temporarily reduce the appearance of the oxidation. After a brief time, the oxidation returns. My guess is that any oils in the Griots polish are causing the temporary reduction in the appearance of the oxidation and not truly eliminating it.
So, can anyone offer a recommendation for a product (or technique) for restoring the oxidized finish?
Lastly, how can I tell if its only oxidation, and not clear coat failure?
Thanks in advance for any tips!

Re: Recommendations for oxidation remover
Don’t use that oxidation remover. It’s for boats not cars.
After you used the Fast Correcting Cream, what did you use to protect the paint?
Would like to see pics of your Cadillac.

Re: Recommendations for oxidation remover
Did you apply the fast correcting cream by hand or machine? Have you successfully polished paint before? Usually when clear gets "oxidized" like that, it's incipient failure, but I guess we've seen a few times on the forums where someone brings one back.

Re: Recommendations for oxidation remover
I applied the Fast Correcting cream with a DA and a foam cutting pad. I then topped it with Blackfire Black Ice.
I was surprised how the oxidation returned after about a month or so. I initially thought I was eliminating it but absolutely not.

Re: Recommendations for oxidation remover
So did it look good after you polished it? Or only better than it did? Is it uniformly oxidized or only in some spots?

Do you live in a hot climate? Lots of sun?

Re: Recommendations for oxidation remover
The oxidation seems to be "random" patches, fairly uniform in their appearance and most noticeable in areas frequently exposed to direct sunlight.
Yes, the climate is extremely hot and sunny. Its no surprise that the oxidation is occurring, I am hoping there is an effective way to eliminate it.

Re: Recommendations for oxidation remover
Sounds like clearcoat failure to me.
