    optimum tire coating

hey guys ive applied optimum tire coating to my tires and im not a fan of coatings after all. I have been trying to remove it and was told optimum TAR was the only thing that can do it. as for my approach I spray it to a dry tire let it dwell for 5 minutes then agitate with the tuff shine tire brush. is this the proper way ? I don't see any improvement after 4 passes of the product

You are going to have to keep going at it. It takes a lot of work to remove a tire coating. You can also use a microfiber towel and good old fashion elbow grease. You could also try stoners tarminator.

    Re: optimum tire coating

A couple of years ago I had to remove it after I botched the application on new tires. It took many many applications of Optimum TAR remover and thorough scrubbing to get it off. Easily 30-45 minutes per tire. It sucked and I've never attempted to use the coating again just in case I have to go through the removal process again.

    Try some steel wool.

Wouldn’t the steel wool damage the sidewall of the tire? Also will Carpro tar x work as well?

0000 steel wool won’t damage the sidewall. People have forever used SOS pads to clean whitewall tires and SOS pads are way more abrasive than 0000 steel wool.

Just make sure to blow out any residue dust away or you could use with some water to prevent the dust. Or you could use waterless wash such as N-914.

    Re: optimum tire coating

Check it out. I just went outside and did it on my tire. I have Turtle Wax Endura Tire Coating on my tires.

    Before:

After: It easily took the top layer off. It wasn’t able to fully remove it in 1 shot, I’ll probably need to use 00 steel wool to make a bigger dent in it but I don’t have any on hand. But it certainly didn’t harm the tire.

Focus on the area nearest to the tread. It was easy to see the difference irl as it came off.

I would try Stoner's Tarminator or mineral spirits. Apply both to a junk towel and rub like crazy. You may have to do it a few times.

Tarminator or mineral spirits are not something you use regularly, but for this sort of thing, they both should get the job done.
