3d one is a compound/polish. Which is pad dependant so that determins how much cut you get. Ive never used 3d one and probly never will. Many ppl on here like it.
And personally i would not worry about water when cleaning out the engine bay with that bad gasket. I would want that clean b4 i preform the repair anyway.

Yeah, I realized that now. For some reason I thought it was the other way around. I even ordered Poxy when I ordered Speed to put over it lol
Alright gentlemen, I appreciate all the info. Will start the process Friday if I don’t get rained out and will post updates here.
Again, appreciate the info and wisdom.

Agreed with a good wash. Look into 3ph Wash and if you don’t mind spending a little more look into Labocosmetica 3ph Wash.
Have some small brushes (including soft tooth brushes to get all books and crannies.
I would use a iron remover and tar remover first. Then do baggie test to decide if your gonna need fine, medium or aggressive claying.
Then I would use griots FCC or CC with the LC flats. To get swirls and scratches. Then hit it with a polishing pad and a polish with perfecting and a polishing pad. Protect with product of your choice.

Sorry to hear about your dad. I look forward to seeing this done. I had a red 96 back in the day.
I’m also in the camp of wash, clay/decon, and HD Speed.

I get the baggy test, but how does it determine what kind of clay to use? The more it grabs, the more aggressive measures I’ll need?
Edit: the 3PH soap you’re referring to is that Labocosmetica PURÌFICA?

The rougher the surface feels the more bonded contaiminants are present on the paint.
Iwould use nothing less than meguiars mild clay, wouldnt hurt to probly use megs agressive clay. Eldo always reccomends that one.

Any idea what kind of clay bar these are? Probably mild. I looked the box over and couldn’t find any specification.

That is a fine clay. You will need to look online or an actual deatiling brick and motar store near you to find mild or aggressive clays

It’s Primus (alkaline) followed by Purifica (acid) and then Semper (ph neutral)
You can try to mix in your own alkaline and ph7 with Purifica but if you need it all I’d stick with the kit.

Alright boys, let’s get a plan together for my late dads Jeep Cherokee.
I did a test run with what I had on hand. I used Speed on the top left of the hood with LC Flat, Bottom right was Griots FCC with a Uro-cell, bottom right was fcc with a LC flat and top right was speed with a Uro cell.
Looks about the same to me. Definitely needed to do a deep wash on this. The pads I used are lookin rough. If I was worried about getting a better finish, I would really deep clean the Jeep but I’m happy with the results and will probably just go ahead and do the whole Jeep tomorrow.

I definitely prefer the Uro-Cell over the Flats. The flats feel like they want to “hop” around or bounce. The UC didn’t feel like that at all. The UC’s are a little bigger too.
Now I’m gonna break out my GR3 mini and see what I can screw up.

Are your pads pulling oxidation?
