Carpro Cquartz UK3.0 Topped with SIC

I am going to coat my friend's daily driver, he asked me to do two layers on it.

Should I do 2 layers of CQUK or
1 layer of CQUK topped with Sic?

I know that topping with SIC will give more slickness and water spotting resistance, but how does it look compared to 2x CQUK?

Also, how many hours before applying 2nd coat of SIC ?

I do one layer of each. Love that combo. I coat with UK, do the whole vehicle then apply Sic right after.

Re: Carpro Cquartz UK3.0 Topped with SIC

Just finished applying 1 coat uk + 1 coat Sic.

I don't know why sic is very hard to apply for me..

This is the 4th time I applied sic. 3 of 4 was soft painted cars. Don't know why, but on these soft paints (Toyotas) I really had a hard time leveling the coating. It just left streaks all over the place and I have to use pressure to wipe it off.

It says that flash time should be 2 to 10mins. But even as early as 1.5 minutes have left me streaks. I coat the cars inside a garage, with temperatures around 28C or 86F. I use carpro suede applicator, applying half a panel at once.

On hard paint (Porsche) it was a different experience. Wipe off was easy and clear.

My bottle of sic was 2021 batch, opened it Nov 2022, is it the problem??

Toyota soft paint can be finicky to coat and polish as it seems to absorb product. Hard to describe it but I have experienced on their white paint and a friend of mine experienced it on black paint.

That temperature is also high. Will affect the flash time along with humidity. UK seems to do better with high temp and humidity.

CQuartz SiC, which stands for Silicon Carbide as its main ingredient. The purpose being that it has more chemical resistance than UK 3.0 and is also supposed to help with mineral deposits (water spots). Can be used on its own but many like to add it as a second layer to UK 3.0.

Glad you said this. I've had a horrible time coating my daughter's Honda Fit and could never figure out why coatings never seem to do well. Never had issues on our Toyota, Subaru, or the other daughter's Mazda...just that crazy Honda.
