Fake leather care/coat

Whenever we get our new Ford Maverick it will come with fake leather/vinyl seats. Ford calls it ActiveX. What would be your recommendations for care of them?

You’ll get two camps. It’s fake and sealed and only needs a wipe down with water. But I’m of the camp, especially with lighter seats, which are susceptible to blue jean transfer (light blue stains), to put some sort of coating on it. As with paint coatings, there are many choices but I like Pinnacle Vinyl and Leather Coating and use it on most hard surfaces within the car.

I really like ColourLock Artificial Leather Cleaner, followed by Artificial Leather Protector.



You only need to use those every 6+ months though. For quick wipe downs, I use ONR or similar.

I second the PBL Vinyl&Leather coating. Looks really good. Doesn’t seem to attract dust.

I also really like Gyeon LeatherCoat on my semi aniline leather seats. Looks good on pleather too.

I used Gyeon LeatherShield on my moms older pleather seats in her rave4 and it works well also.

I look at modern leather care more like paint protection than leather treatment.

I’m not so much nourishing/protecting actual leather/vinyl but protecting it’s factory coating like I would my clearcoat.

I use Murphy oil soap in the spray bottle. Even the directions say to use it on leather and vinyl.

With your car being new I would recommend to stock up on coloulock mild leather cleaner and colourlock leather shield.

Not a cheap product, but works amazingly well. Don't have many passengers, but my daily driver, drivers side is going on 8 mos. and still looks good.
