After Polish Is IPA Wipe Down Good Enough [ Vs Rewash + IPA Wipe Down]

First time I will be applying ceramic.

Does IPA wipedown remove polish remnants/oils fully (looking at using 20% ipa wipedown solution).

Or even with a good IPA wipedown can some polish remnants/oils still linger to a certain degree.

Crazy part of me is saying to do a re-wash + ipa wipedown after polish. Sane part of me is saying quite inventing extra unnecessary steps.

You don’t need to rewash , an IPA wipe down will work however I would make it a 40% alcohol IPA or even 50%… That being said putting on a coating is a semi permanent experience, and only one you do once or twice in the lifetime of the car. Because of that, I would probably get the prep product made by the coating manufacturer. Carpro eraser is a good one.

Without addressing coating prep in general as I have zero experience there, if I were in your shoes, with your concerns, I'd just wash the car first.

Even if it's not absolutely necessary, it certainly can't hurt and you'll have the peace-of-mind of not skipping something you think could be beneficial.

If you do rewash, (which I don’t this is strictly necessary), make sure your soap has zero remnants left behind. A lot of soaps have ‘gloss enhancers’ that I think would interfere with the coating. The IPA should remove them but it would be a fresh layer of whatever. Plus you’ll have the surfactants to deal with. Overall, I think you’re making a lot of work for no gain.

    •IMO:
(In order to have assurance of an overall
    successful Ceramic Coating application):

    -Follow the Ceramic Coating manufacturer’s
    “prep” instructions—yes, this includes
    their recommended panel-wipe
    .

-By doing so will take away the confusion
    and/or anxiety over what products/processes
    to use.

Which coating? The risk of rewashing is the potential to put back scratches into the freshly polished surface. When in doubt as a well known professional has stated to use the intended panel prep for that particular coating.

No need to re-wash. I don't personally use an IPA, I use more consistent and safer true panel wipe product either from the manufacturer. Something Like Optimum Paint Prep works well too though. This particular brand doesn't have any anti-static agents which could interfere so it works well. Washing will also re-introduce water into joints and trim pieces that will need fully dried prior to coating (for best results) thus as a detailer it would cost me time. YMMV though.
