    Brand New Wheel Coating

I have a brand new set of wheels that I intend to Ceramic coat in the near future.

Would I need to clay and iron decon these or just skip to an IPA wipe down prior to coating?

I wouldn't clay unless you were going to polish them. Clay should not be needed on new wheels.

Iron decon shouldn't be needed either but it's easy enough to do to find out.

    Then wipe them down.

    Re: Brand New Wheel Coating

When I coated a new set of wheels, I hit them with an APC and a soft cloth to clean off any grime from shipping. I followed that up Eraser and then applied the coating. Like others have said, no polishing, claying, etc needed.

Panel wipe and coat. Coat them after the tires have been put on.

You shouldn't need to do either. If you want to, you can use an iron spray on your wheels as it really doesn't take much time, but when my Vorshalg wheels where brand new I did an iron spray and they did not need it. Panel wipe/eraser/ipa is all that should need to be done.

    Re: Brand New Wheel Coating

Thanks for the input everyone, pretty much confirms what I was planning to do. I will give them a thorough wipe down with Eraser then straight to coating.

I have no issues doing an iron decon but, and I can't believe I'm saying this, I don't see the point in wasting chemical if it's not needed. Especially if it means avoiding the stench of IronX.

These wheels have a matte finish so polishing would not be desirable. I know the coating will add some gloss but I'm fine with that.

I also intend to coat the front Brembo calipers. I will perform the Iron decon for this job though.

I now wish I had red calipers to match the Race Red body though.
