Shop vac too powerful- fix or new vac?

I have a 5HP Dewalt shop vac but I find it’s too powerful, as soon as I touch the carpet it just wants to pull the carpet off…

is there a way to work around the suction power, or should I purchase a smaller vacuum system for vacuuming up every day dirt from the carpets? If so, and money was no object what would be the best choices?

I've never heard of "too much". And I've certainly never experience "too much".

Drill holes in your attachments. The air needs to vent.

Use a brush attachment, or notch the ends of your existing attachments to allow more air in as Ric mentioned above.
It is no coincidence that man's best friend cannot talk.

Perfect that’s the “fix” I was looking for! That’s the issue now I think about it- it basically suctions on and won’t let go which makes it hard to move.

So just make a couple small drill holes and add more as necessary?

Even easier . . . when using the vacuum just hold the tool at a slight angle so that the end of the tool isn't 100% flush with the surface of the rug. If you don't allow a seal to be created at the end of the vacuum tool then you won't get that suction affect that's bothering you.
You like Nattys, I like Souveran, and Justin is DP MaxWax. And you know what, its alright !!

I like the idea of brush or notching the end.

Just thinking out loud, if you drill some holes in the side of the attachment, air would more likely flow through those and not through the opening that is contacting the carpet.

Notching the end allows the air to flow through right at the point of contact between the attachment and carpet, possibly increasing the cleaning 'power' of the vacuum because the air may blast through the carpet fibers, dislodging the debris.

But then again, it might not really make any difference.

If you drill holes in it, put them close to where your hands go so you can cover them up for 'extra' power when needed...
