How would you clean your wheels if..

.. it's against the law to let any soap/grease/oil go down into the sewers? Where I live, I can get a fine for washing my car in the drivieway/on the street. I'm just curious what are some possible solutions to this. Thankfully there's ONR to clean the paint but I dont know of anything for wheels and tires..

Do it in the middle of the night when everyone is sleeping or go to the quarter car wash. Take a bucket with soap and water and some wheel cleaner to the wash and do them there.

You could also wash it in the grass, that way no water will get into the runoff / storm drains.

Thanks for the ideas. I think I'll have to stick with the coin washes...I can't wash on my lawn because it inclines pretty steep. The dirty water will just end up on the street. Does anyone live in a city or town with the same law?

There are also some effective citrus cleaners out there that are suppose to cut pretty well without contributing to our toxic chemical dependencies. I haven't used one yet so I can't recommend any. But since your local laws are concerned with introducing more crap into the environment, you could follow suit and look for VOC compliant products that are environment friendly.

As for location it sounds like the local coin-op is your best bet. I liked the grass idea, but I always wonder if the stuff I'm using is going to kill the lawn. Has that happened to anyone?

Pull them off the car and take them in the bath tub. No one will ever find out.
