Re: Can I use any sealant over BF One Step?

•If I was contemplating topping an AIO,
-I would wait for around a month to do so.
(That would at least give the AIO’s protection
component a chance to demonstrate its mettle.)

•After the above waiting period has elapsed,
-I personally would go with Wolfgang Deep
    Gloss Paint Sealant
    as the topper.
-(Both of the Sonax/Turtle Wax products you
mentioned gets the short end of the stick in
    this scenario.)

Re: Can I use any sealant over BF One Step?

I put BF sealant, BF Midnight sun, BF hybrid liquid wax and BF Black montan wax all on top of One Step with great results.

Durability was also lengthened considerably over the month or so over step provides on its own.

My goto for adding durability to a 1 step is still Collinite 845. On HD Speed it adds approximately 6 months protection IN MY OPINION. It's very ez to put on and take off.

Re: Can I use any sealant over BF One Step?

I am not sold on the concept of adding a sealant on top of another sealant.

We strive to chemically and physically decontaminate a paint surface in order to enhance the "bonding" of a sealant to the paint. In the case of adding a second sealant over an initial one, surely the second sealant is not going to be "bonding" with the paint surface.

If you need light correction + protection, I suspect that use of a standalone polish followed with a standalone sealant, will offer the same durability as an AIO followed by a second standalone sealant.

I have done both (AIO topped with sealant or pure polish topped with sealant). And I always get the same result (longevity-wise).

That's why I don't get the (sometimes) heated arguments over how topping an AIO "defeats the purpose".

If you are doing this for money, then absolutely so. "All In One, get 'er done, and out the door".

But for those of us that do this as a hobby/pleasure, I cannot see that side of the argument at all.

    I agree with this 200%!!!!

I even use an AIO like BF or 3D speed in my one step polish options then top with a wax or sealant. With some of the current AIO products being so user friendly and effective one step polishes, I personally think it’s a great choice!

I will even top an AIO with a spray wax type product for prolonged durability. A spray wax only takes a few minutes to do an entire vehicle.

    Thank you Jim & Tommy.

I respect both of your opinions as you guys do this 100x more than I do.

Just because your correction medium contains a bit of sealant, it doesn't mean you CAN'T top it, right??

Re: Can I use any sealant over BF One Step?

I remember something Mike said about sealant on sealant not having the best bonding... maybe I'm mistaken. I seem to remember wax can go on top of sealant but sealants not good to top either a sealant or a wax.... like I said maybe I'm wrong. Would be interested to hear from others.
