Can't decide between 6" pads vs 5.5
My rotary has a 6" backing plate and a smaller 4". My long throw and my Porter Cable DA have the 5" backing plate.
I use the rotary only for special occasions whereas the other two are the work horses.

With the rotary I like a 5" backing plate. I use 5" pads but also 6" pads on the 5" backing plate. The pad overhanging the plate comes in real handy, often, for rolling up and around some of these serious body lines/ waves/ twists of these newer vehicles.

I was thinking of ordering the Rupes DA Yellow Fine Foam Pad in 5" but it doesn't look like they have it on their website (AG)

I’ve been a 6” guy but now with all the angled body work a 5” keeps more pad on paint and less spinning in the air.

I use the Rupes 150mm (5.9”) pads with a 5” backing plate and it seems to fit fine with a slight overhang.
