Re: ONR vs Foam and Wash - If you could do either which would you choose?
Sure you can pre rinse with water. You can do that with the foam gun attached to the hose if you like. I often rinse with water, foam the whole car, then foam the section I’m working on while whisking with the mitt. The key is to have plenty of soapy foam running over the paint while you whisk with the mitt.

Thanks for clarifying, for a second there I thought you didn’t pre rinse at all.

I find pre rinsing to be a pretty fun part of the whole washing experience. :-)

Me too. When else do we get to see the beading in all its glory?

I think a pre-rinse is the great equalizer; dirt that's flushed off the paint can't scratch. I've also recently tried the Bill D multiple media method with shampoo and might not be going back to 2-bm

That sounds very good! I only use buckets now to carry wheel brushes or if I’m going to do a Valugard ABC Decon wash.

@DetailZeus I used the search function but didn't find more details. What is "Bill D multiple media method with shampoo?"

Living in Florida, I rarely do a traditional wash. On our Accord (purchased May 2017) has only ever been washed with rinseless, and still no swirls. We don't get salt on the roads, and only drive on paved streets. I wash my truck with a 2BM when it is dirty or has been in the dirt.
For client cars, it is about 75% rineseless - some are classic muscle to prewar (so minimal water), and the fear of water spots in full sun dictate rinseless.

The Bill D method, as I see it’s being called, is simply washing sections of a car with more than one mitt. I use a foam gun simultaneously while doing this. I divide the car into sections and use about 6-8 mitts. I never have to worry about wringing out mitts and wondering if I got all the dirt out of the mitt this way. Just grab a clean one and work on the next section.
