    Polishing a windshield

I recently tinted the windshield with Llumar Clear Air Blue 80...and while I love the fact that its almost clear and virtually undetectable and offers incredible UV, IR and heat reduction....it's only drawback is that now every little imperfection (i.e. wiper tracks, tiny scratches and rock chips, etc.) is more noticeable.

What would be the best approach for tackling this? I'm thinking polishing the windshield should definitely help, and I'm curious which polishes and pads people would recommend trying.

    Thanks

Did the film go on the outside of the glass? I assume so based on your post.

    Agree. Confused by the OP.
If film is outside, I have no idea how you’d fix film.

BTW, all modern windshields already provide full UV protection. Tints help with heat though no doubt.

No...inside. I've never seen tinted windows where the tint was placed on the outside of the glass...can't image that being a good idea at all...LOL

The tint on the inside of the windshield glass acts the same way as putting on a pair of polarized sunglasses...it reduces glare and sunlight rays which allows things that were previously less noticeable on the windshield to become more clear and noticeable. It's almost like wearing reading glasses in a sense because things seem to be amped up a bit....not in size but in clarity.

That makes sense. I couldn't figure out why you'd see windshield washer marks, etc with the tint inside. It sounded like you were saying the tint was being marked up.

    Re: Polishing a windshield

Apparently my initial post has caused some confusion. To clarify, the tint was placed on the inside of the windshield, just the same as side and rear windows have tint applied.

The problem isn't with the tint itself, but with the glass on the front of the windshield. The tint has reduced glare and the sun's incoming rays which has added clarity which now exposes the imperfections on the front of the windshield.

Basically, I'm just wanting to know what the best polish, pad and procedure there is to eliminate any fine scratches, tiny rock chips, wiper tracks, and other imperfections from the front of the windshield would be.

    Sorry for the confusion.

Polishing glass is no fun. You will be able to get rid of the fine scratches and wiper tracks, but not the rock chips.

You can use a DA with a rayon glass pad, but a rotary is so much faster.

Cerium Oxide is what most use to polish glass.
