Finished the future son in laws seltos...

Next car he gets will NOT have these wheels, I assure you What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

Used m37 V2 coating after correcting with 3D One.
Cleaned engine bay by spraying down with N914, and then spraying with 303 (all I had for that type of plastic). That was my first go with that method, with really well, after blow drying.
Then finished up the tires/wheels with griots 3-1 spray(I was not going to coat these things) and some Of my "special sauce" on the tires after scrubbing 3 times.

The foam pads are the Diamond style and I’ve never really been a fan of foam pads with waffles or dimples etc

I ordered one plain beveled orange heavy polishing pad to try so I got out the red finishing pad and the orange pad and the new NV Finesse polish

I taped a section and tried the red pad first and it wasn’t enough to help the light swirls and scratches but I didn’t really expect it to

It left a nice finish though

It’s unbelievable how much damage the car sustained last winter from being outside at the B&B where we spent the winter

I put on the plain orange pad and it feels almost exactly like a Lake Country SDO orange pad

A couple of moderate speed and moderate pressure passes helped but it needed more so I blew the pad out and did 3 passes with just a touch more pressure and it worked nicely

I got a tiny bit of dusting but since I have a compressor again I can deal with it

I did a bit more of the hood and momma popped her head in the garage to let me know she was up so I stopped to make her coffee and then cleaned up my mess

I really like the new polisher, the slow start function is awesome for spreading product and it is just smooth and a delight to use

Who makes the pads? In the market for some now... the crappy ones I got are separating( had to glue them with e3000, in order to finish the son in law's car)?

What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

I am going around the car panel by panel and identifying RIDS and other defects as well as just the accumulation of a year and a half of wear and tear since I last corrected the paint

Today is hatch day and there are several scratches like this

The car hasn’t been out of the garage since I last washed it so I did a quick rinseless and hit the paint with my Griot’s Synthetic Clay sponge using N-914 at QD dilution and then another quick rinseless and drying followed by masking with 3M delicate tape which unfortunately left residue

I worked the edges with 1” and 1/2” pads in rotary mode and did the remainder with a 2” pad in 5mm DA mode, all with NV Finesse on orange pads

I got enough correction to make me happy and leave a nice finish although I could have hit a bit harder and possibly eliminated the scratch

    I tend to be conservative

The pads pictured are Shinemate brand

They are new to me and I liked the way the orange one behaved but I don't have any long term experience with them so I can't comment on longevity

I just can't get over how much the price of pads has gone up in the last few years

I am just a hobbyist so right now I am buying one pad at a time to try and once I get my pad selection dialed in I will probably only buy 3 of a given size and kind instead of the 6 or so I would have bought just 4-5 years ago

I am determined to make what I buy work with adjustments to technique as much as possible to try and keep things simple and costs down

I hear you... I'm not sitting on time and every pad (maybe minus some cheap 6.5" options at local stores) must be ordered and shipped. It has resulted in me having too many pads and a lot of single pads from other random choices I meant to try but never did once I found my groove during the day or two a year I get to polish. My nightmare is running out of pads when I do finally take a day off from the 9-5 and work on family vehicles.

I will say I took a chance on the DIY Gold Standard system and was happy. I didn't need correction, more so enhancement though. I had my trusty PA Master Compound and blue LC combo available this weekend as needed.

Well, your Beemer shines like a freaking diamond so you obviously got stuff figured out

Before I sold everything last summer I had so many one off orphan pads it was ridiculous

    $$$ just sitting there

I still haven't gotten our second 10'x20' storage unit emptied and I won't until they deliver the 12'x24' barn roof shed that will sit next to our garage

But I have dug some random things out while searching for something specific and a couple of weeks ago I found a white and an orange 4" Lake Country CCS pad, a 4" green finishing pad that I think was a Buff and Shine, and a white 4" finishing pad with really rounded edges that I don't have a clue what it is

I bet they are close to 15 years old

I washed them out and when I get my 3" polisher in a month or so I will see if they even hold together or just explode due to their age

I ordered a single 5" Rupes yellow wool pad today because that is a no brainer

I've been using Shinemate pads for about 4 years now and really like them. Durability has been great.

I would think he'd be getting many targeted offers for free rentals in the future.
