What type glue for backing plate velcro?
I have a Makita PO5000C that the hook and loop velcro is separating from the backing plate. What type of glue should I use to hold it on? Obviously dont want any glue melting out.
Thanks!

I have not had any luck trying to re-glue the Velcro back down to a backing plate or to a polishing pad.

Re: What type glue for backing plate velcro?
While I have used something as simple as DAP Contact Cement on a replacement Foam Pad on a Craftsman Orbital Waxer, this type of Glue would probably not be good enough for a DA or Rotary Backing Plate which likely sees more heat, and possibly liquid chemicals.
I might lean towards using a 2-part Epoxy that can stand up to such rigors, and perhaps something like JB Weld would work fine. Once mixed, one should be able to spread a thin amount where needed, clamp with some pressure or weight, quickly wipe away any excess and let fully dry.
JB Weld is easily gotten, wally world and such, just see what it can be used on before buying.

Doesn't that dry really hard though?

The following may do the trick:
•2-part epoxy glues;
•Gorilla Glue

I would opt for gorilla glue over any epoxy as it is much more flexible.

Why would you want flexibility? It's for the backing plate, not a pad. Could flexible glue have any benefit?

I don't know of any backing plates that are absolutely rigid - they all have some flexibility to them. Thus my recommendation for a more flexible adhesive.

IMO:
Even if true, there’s no need in knocking
the 2-part epoxy’s ‘rigidness’...when the
ultimate goal is “securement”.

I’m thinking maybe beneficial for
re-Velcro’d BPs that will wind up
being attached to Flex polishers?
