Any concern to detailing while raining?

It's cold and rainy (40's), and I wanted to ask - Is there any concern to this? Obviously not IN the rain, but in the open garage just a few feet away from pouring rain, so obviously 100% humidity.

With 100% humidity you may not get the results you are wanting to achieve. I would try a test spot on a panel.

Depends on what kind of detailing you are going to do. To wash the car I think is no problem. But if you where to polish and protect the I would skip doing it. Some polish does not like high humidity and also some sealants. I would not risk it to be doing all over again and be haveing trouble when working. You could do a test spot with doing all to that you are going to do before move on to the whole car. If you where to apply a ceramic coating I would definitely wait for the wheather to be at it's best for doing so.

Why not just close the garage door?

I too have washed and clayed a car in the rain, but that was the extent of it.

I was wondering the same thing. Not only will it be *slightly* less humid, but you will avoid the possibility of the winds changing and blowing rain into your garage and making a mess of your work. Also, if you're using halogen shop lights to light your work, they will warm up the garage a bit too. Not like a space heater, but you'd be surprised.

The weather is killing detailing for a lot of us. I need to correct and coat my daughter's car soon, but endless rain and temps ranging from the upper 20's to low 50's is keeping me from getting anything done.

I just didn't think it would do much.

I 've done work in my garage in the middle of winter, I'd do it in a hurricane. I've done it in rain storms even with the door open. It should be a problem at all. Ur inside, it's nice to have a little heater if it's cold.

If the rain is pouring in or misting in through the door, it will certainly have an effect on how products respond, or even make it impossible.
When we did a new car prep (Polish & CQUK) on this 2016 Stingray, it was pouring out but no issues.

Never had much of an issue.

I was out in the garage, in the same weather earlier, and will be again in an hour or so.

I prefer the door open because I like the natural light, but if I close the door, I have more control over the conditions.

Hum... trying to think of products that don't like humidity. The only one that comes to mind is coatings. So I you plan to coat a vehicle, doing all the prep work would not be a problem, but the coating itself is sensitive to high humidity... so I would probably postpone doing the last step (grease and wax removal) and the coating itself for when humidity is a little lower. Other than that, I can't think of any other aspect of detailing that would be affected negativelly by high humidity. Of course if you decide to shampoo cloth seats and carpets, it will take much longer to dry...
