Do I really need acid based Wheel cleaner?

I have a question in my mind

do those alkaline degrease that contain Sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, "butyl", etc.. anything strong alkaline able to attack rust iron that appeared as brake dust for easier removal?

I found myself having a hard time removed caked brake dust completely with those alkaline based degreasers even at strong dilution compared to using acidic wheel cleaner, such as Oxalic acid(not a fan of smelly acid variant)

Polished aluminum (no clear coat) and damaged clear coated wheels, as the acid can get under the damage and lift the clear or color coat.

You can use an acid based wheel cleaner on all modern day factory OEM wheels.

•Those strong base cleaners are very
tough on grease, but won't touch rust.

•Sounds like using one of the products
labeled as being iron-removers/dissolvers
(“the bleeders”, as it were) would likely
be one of your best options for this task.

I like mckees foaming gel wheel cleaner so much I bought the gallon size. But you have to remember you should only need this type of cleaner every few months. In between you should be able to keep it clean with car soap as long as you have some decent protection on there.
