I wash ALL of my towels. I use Tide or equivalent. No softener or Clorox. I dry my towels in the dryer. I have been doing this for years with no adverse affects.

Yes I wash my drying towels. However there’s a couple of them that live a pampered life, so they don’t need to be washed after every use. For example, large Big Blue towel is only used on 1 or 2 vehicles, and when it’s used it only dries the main large panels of the vehicle [hood, doors, trunk, roof] and never do I use it to dry the rocker panels, bumpers, windows, grill, trunk jamb, plastic trim, or anywhere below the beltline where things are more likely to have leftover grime after a wash.
It does it’s job and hangs to dry indoors, then goes right back into its jumbo zip lock bag to remain clean for a couple more uses at least.
As far as the grunt work? Meguiars Water Magnets and other random waffle weaves are perfect for that. They get washed after each use because they need it.
I wash all of the mf towels after first use. They are such a dirt magnets so to be on the safe side I wash them. Separate them in the use they have and what kind of towel they are. Maybe overboard but I use so few of them so no big deal for me. The plush mf drying towels I always wash separate just to be safe that them keeps plush and clean.
Absolutely! Wash all of them. I wouldn't never risk re-using a drying towel that does an will pick up small partials from areas that may have been missed when washing.

Since we are talking about care of MF towels, and given the number of them that most on here have...what do you find works best for storing them? Totes with lids?

I store mine in giant zip lock bags. Keeps them clean + I can just grab them and go if I need to do a mobile detail.

Though they take up more space, I like using these Sterilite 16 quart plastic storage containers from Home Depot.
I can easily grab what I need when I go mobile. They stack nicely and I think they are the perfect size, not too big and not too small.
They fit nice in my 4x8 trailer.
Someday I'd like to have a big garage and put them all in some nice metal cabinets.
I have just gotten into detailing as a hobby in the last year, with an eye toward using this as a source of income once I retire in 3 - 4 years. So I have been building up my arsenal for a few months, and I am strongly considering this for sorting and storing my MFs: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MRLSE7Z...JPKVL2X7&psc=1
