    Re: Sealant comparison

Well... I'm back for at least one post. I have literally not even washed a car for well over a year until this weekend. Last 2-3 months to get this old house ready. Lost many months to work going crazy. Lost a few weeks due to Covid. Lost of a few more dealing with elderly parents. Then I though grad should was a good idea. Working 50-60+ hours per week + grad school leave no time for anything. I thought I knew was busy was before.

So I don't know if I can sustain any sort of testing. But the weather is getting better and I did wash the cars, so I'll start with re-testing some old products. These have almost certainly been frozen, so not sure how they will work. And the AquaWax went on dry rather than wet as recommended in the instructions.

Boxster driver side door has Reload + Ech20 on the front half, DG Nanoglass ceramic sealant on the back half. Passenger door has and Aquawax on the front half and Ultima Acrylic Spray Wax on the back half.

I need to do some reading to see what newer sealants are getting a lot of attention and test those. I hope to get a few more products added to the Rover doors as well this weekend. I have to find some products first or order some.

EDIT: hmmm... Mike is gone and the products available from autogeek.net are significantly reduced and most products are out of stock. Not sure what's going on but I clearly can't continue to test only products sold by Autogeek - the available products are too limiting.

I think if you include non-Autogeek products, nobody will care. Autogeek doesn’t seem to be watching for a while now. Test away!

AG’s product range has gone down a bunch. AutoForge seems to be picking up what they are dropping.

    Re: Sealant comparison

I put a bunch of products on the Rover as well. Several products made it a week at most. Most of these are not surprising. Some of them are 2+ years old and very cold over Winter - likely down to 13 degrees. They may not be good. If I can't get any better results I'll toss out those tests and those products. The Rover products were also applied in 60 degree weather and got wet less than 24 hours after application.

Today I have re-applied all the products that failed. It's going to be close to 90 degrees today and no rain is expected for several days.

Products that were done in a week and were re-applied to test again:

    • Adam's Graphene Detail Spray
    • Duragloss FC&S + Aquawax (75% and 25%)
    • Gloss Shop Trifecta Rinseless Wash
    • Chemical Guys Synthetic QD
    • Turtle Wax Spray Coating
    • AMD Valor QD
    • 3M Quick Wax
    • Ech2o+Reload

I expected the 3M Quick Wax and the Turtle Wax to last much longer. The TW is new, so no freezing issues with that one.

    Other products still going:

    • DG Nano Sealant
    • Ultima Spray Wax
    • DG Aquawax
    • Griot 3-in-1 Wax
    • 303 Spray and Rinse Ceramic
    • 303 Touchless
    • 3D Bead It Up
    • NS Spray Coating
    • AMD Valor
    • Collinite Speed Wax
    • Collinite Ceramic Sealant

More details in the spreadsheet in the spreadsheet. As we get toward the end of summer I will apply more products that are expected to last longer. I don't expect to keep up weekly testing in Fall and Winter.

Edit: tested the Boxster today as well. Ech2o+Reload is done as well. This mix is old - I'll do one more test with it then be done.
