How bad did I screw up? Love to get some feebacks

Hi all, this is my first post here. I am hoping that someone can provide feedback based on what I've done to my new car.

So, i have been reading and watching how others detailed their car. I have a 2 year old car and I wanted to make it nice and shiny. Here are the products I used.

    - Meguiars ultimate compound
    - Meguiars ultimate polish
    - NU Finish

I did a 3 stages using a griot polisher, I used each of the products above and their corresponding pads.

After the work, and some more readings, I know I screwed up and now I just wanted to know how bad I screwed up.

    Here's what my thoughts are.

    - since it is a fairly new car, the paint was fresh and wasn't oxidizing. I shouldn't have used the compound and the aggressive pad

I did a few passes with the compound, then I polished and waxed. I wasn't pressing on the polisher and wasn't putting a lot of pressure on the polisher either.

I now want to know how much damage I did by using the compound and the wrong bad.... The car looks fine.. Looks great actually but I just don't know enough. Hoping to hear from any experienced detailers. Thank you all in advanced.

If you didn't go through the clear you're fine in my opinion. Is it possible that you removed a little more clear than you needed to? Sure. Ultimate compound is not that aggressive a compound so I really wouldn't be to concerned about it.

I'm not a professional, but it doesn't sound like you screwed up. Compounds don't just take care of oxidation, they also remove scratches/swirls... you may have just removed a little more clear coat than was necessary, but I don't you've "screwed up"... car looks good right? And it's protected with the wax? I'd say you did a great job!

Hi Sean, I'll try to get a few photos when I get home. I think it looks fine now but I'll definitely use the least aggressive method to handle the paint going forward but am just afraid to that I've thin out that clear coat too much and have clear coat failure down the road.. Yikes.....

I wouldn’t be concerned about removing too much clear. Car looks good. Call it a day and stop worrying. Vehicles get compounded all the time with no ill effects besides swirls getting removed. I’m sure you removed some swirls and made your paint look better!
