Need help: polishing super sticky paint.

I've had success using M205, but you may or may not have the same results. I worked the section as normal, don't try and wipe off, clean your pad on the fly, apply a few more drops of M205 and short cycle the polish, one pass and wipe off right away.


It's been several years since I had to deal with one of these. On the Forester I last did I cut with Megs D300 using their MF pads and followed with M205 and foam pads. D300 dried up a little but wasn't near as bad as some other compounds.

I saw a guy once make a diluted version of M205 by mixing some polish with ice water and then putting the bottle of that in an ice water bath between pad applications. I think he cooled the panels with ice water soaked towels as well. This was all that would work. I think it was on Nissan self-healing paint, but the theory should work on soft sticky paint too.

Spritzing the panel with ice cold water as well as a light mist on your pad with compound already on it could work wonders for you too. Your other alternative is whatever compound you're using, mix it up with some water. That will reduce cut but will improve your working time and make less of a mess foe you to clean up.

If you don't have either HD Polish+ or Scholl Concepts S30+ you are most likely stuck trying one of these other jenky methods to keep the panel cool because the lubricants in the polishes you've been using do not like heat so they dry up before you're able to complete a single section pass. But Some HD Polish+ or Scholl Concepts S30+ to have on hand for situations like these. I promise you will thank me!

Scholl makes the best polishes, IMO.

It's true, like Mark mentioned Scholl Concepts has the best polishes. They are unlike anything else on the market, you can actually overwork the polishes on soft/sticky paint and they'll still wipe off easy. Make sure you put it into a dispenser that allows you to use very little polish. It's heavily lubricated and will go a very long way.

Jason Rose on his recent visit to Asia addressed this problem.
He used a Rupes polisher, UHS, and short working cycle, like two to three passes, no pressure.
