    Question Meguiars Wheel Brightener Question?!

Evening fellow detailers, my uncle is in town with his Escalade ESV Platinum and wants me to detail his car tomorrow after driving on some salted roads in the colder northeast. He's got a ton of salt/brake dust/road grime on his wheels. I've got some Meguiars wheel brightener but I'm not particularly sure if his wheels are aluminum or chrome, and I know the D140 can cause a chemical reaction with polished Aluminum. Can I use the wheel brightener on this rim? Thanks guys, any answer would be great thanks again.

You'll be fine. Just spray on a cool wheel, agitate quick, and rinse well. Work one wheel at a time to be safe and wear proper PPE.

If he has stock wheels you should be fine.

Just use common sense. Don't let it dwell too long, or let it dry, work one wheel at a time, and make sure to rinse it well including the backside of the spokes and around the lugs/center caps.

    Meguiars Wheel Brightener Question?!

If you want to make sure they're not aluminum, you can take an applicator pad with a pea sized amount of polish or compound and rub a small portion of the wheel. If it turns out completely black then it's bare metal, and you shouldn't use the Wheel Brightener.

I'd be more concerned whether they're traditional chrome or PVD chrome. 1 would hope that a Cadillac that costs around $90,000 brand new wouldn't cheapen anything, but you never know...

I love Cadillacs, but they've been known to cut corners ever since the late 1960's. 1 of the greatest offenses has been the plastic dashboards covered with a cheap thin sticker which made "simulated wood" in the early 70's through the mid 80's. It looked great when new, but give it a few years of neglect and you can only wonder how they had the nerve to charge a whopping $33,000 for an 82' Eldorado, especially when you consider a 78' used to sell brand new for about $9,000.

I think you'll be alright, but give us an update, because they better not have cheapened the chrome wheels on a Cadillac.

•Because of the real and present health
    dangers presented by "fluoride ions"...
-I personally would not use Meguiar's
    D140 Wheel Brightener without having
on hand all the necessary PPE; correct
    calcium gluconate product; EMT#s; etc.:
    -Not for cleaning wheels.
    -Not for cleaning anything. Ever.

The Megs non acid wheel cleaner doesn't appear to be much safer...

I had been using both Meguiars Hot Wheels Chrome Cleaner and Eagle 1 Chrome and Wire Cleaner which are very similar to Megs Wheel Brightener... I used it for many many years, and not once did I accidentally drink any of it or spray it in my eyes or anything crazy like that. You'd have a better chance of winning the lottery, or have to be a complete idiot to hurt yourself with "acid"

Use as directed and it's harmless.

It says the same thing for Shampoo Plus.
And on the label of D180 Leather Cleaner & Conditioner and also D156 Sythetic X-Press Spray Wax it says "For industrial use only" Does that mean driveway detailers shouldn't be using it?

I don't find anything nice about science, it's consistently wrong and constantly being corrected.
