Uncoated leather - how to clean, protect, and not remove the color?

I have come to discover that the previous owner of my new car had the leather sitting surfaces of the front seat replaced when it started to wear years ago. Looks great but everything I seem to touch it with takes color off. (And since it is only certain areas that have been redone, I have no inconspicuous spot to test.

I've tried distilled water (all he ever used - but it was rarely driven. Now a daily driver). Isn't getting the dirt unless I rub - and then I'm also bringing up color. Meguiar's Gold Class Leather and Vinyl Cleaner - removes color (but cleans). Meguiar's Gold Class Rich Leather Cleaner/Conditioner in the pump conditions and makes soft, but cleaning is meh.

I've heard Lexor isn't that great as a cleaner - but I'm willing to try.

So the short version: What will remove dirt + dye transfer, but not require rubbing or removing existing dye?

Sounds like you have Aniline Leather
(unprotected/uncoated).

I've had great luck with Optimum Leather Protectant. It has mild cleaners and is also good on trim.

with mink oil and lanolin.

I prefer to not use leather products
containing those, as well as some
other, ingredients. (So I don't.)
