    Re: Best radar detectors.

Addysdaddy has been doing a whole bunch of research - calling people, reading reviews, searching forums, everything - you name it, he has done it. If he doesn't see this thread, it may be worth a PM for his opinion.

I've only really considered two - Escort & Valentine. I leaned toward Escort and my dealer leaned toward Valentine. So of course, I haven't done it yet. Wanted the full package and didn't realize how expensive install is... Hope your search goes well!

I've had the escort 9500ix for 4 years now. Very accurate. V1 might be a tad more accurate but you would never know the difference. Escort has the GPS feature in which you can save x-bands(automatic doors/garage doors) as well as k-bands ( usually the same as x). Keep in mind I believe both have laser detector however once your hit you've already been caught. The radar detector will get you out of most speeding tickets but by the sound of your story, you may just have to sloooooow down.

I use a Escort Solo S3 mounted on a blendmount bracket hanging from my rear view when driving I-95 or turnpikes. If your driving on major roads odds are state cops are using laser guns and like Mastercraft241 said once your tagged by a cop using one it's already game over.

KI've used the escort passport max with great results. Has the features with the smart phones tracking where others have seen cops. Also has the abilities to remember false alarms (drive pass the same ezpass everyday it will recognize it as a false after you pass it a few times). I don't know if the other escort models also have these features also

EDIT: didn't see the budget part. I would say the other escort models would be just as effective. Saw a few posts about other escort models.

I have had a V1 for several years. It works great and has saved me several times. I like that it tells you how may hits and the direction.

V1. It depend on how the cop setup his trap. No radar detector can save you if you are over 80. You reaction time are not fast enough. Btw, don't speed on the left lane, always watch your rear view mirror.

You could just drive the speed limit or like 5 mph over. It's free and you won't get any tickets. That's what I do - haven't had a ticket in a decade.

This is what I do, going to and from work and on trips. My wife often comments to me that on surface streets I'm going under as well. I drive for a living so my license is important. That said, now that I've got a car with some power and its tuned I can get my "fix" from time to time where I deem it safe to do so, everything in moderation!

    Re: Best radar detectors.

I have the Escort 9500IX and I LOVE IT! I used to have the Valentine and it gave me SOOO many false alarms i just couldn't do it. I get up to my desired speed and BAM warning so i slow down, and it's a false alarm. I sold the V1 for the Escort 8500 and then gave that to my dad and bought my 9500IX. Best radar in the world.
